Department of Stomatology of Jingdu Hospital Conducts Free Consulting in Zhangjiakou
Beijing JIngdu Children's HospitalShanghai Pubin Children's Hospital launched a themed charity summer consulting event for children on July 27, 2020, including free health workshops and onsite consultations.
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Pubin Children's Hospital has put in place a strict pandemic prevention and control mechanism. The free consulting event covered the departments of ophthalmology, urology, stomatology and osteology, among others.
"Many parents fail to attach enough importance to common health problems as child snore syndrome (snoring), oral disease, poor eyesight and phimosis and missed opportunities to detect, intervene and treat diseases in the early stage. That's why we have organized this event to provide a reliable platform for the public to have face-to-face exchange with doctors and acquire correct, scientific knowledge on children's health," said Chief Physician Zhou Yunfang, Deputy Dean of the hospital and also Dean of the Department of Pediatrics.
Led by Professor Jin Xingming, founder of the developmental behavioral pediatrics in China and Dean of Pubin Children's Hospital, Pubin has created a dedicated team covering childcare, education, convalescence, nutrition and nursing disciplines. The practice has formed a unique model integrating medical practice and education.
In response to the Covid-19 outbreak, Beijing Jingdu Children's Hospital formulated emergency response plan and put in place various control and prevention measures pursuant to the National Health Commission's policies.
The hospital has adopted the following measures:
Separate the outpatient building from the fever clinics to ensure “zero cross-infection”;
One-meter distancing rules in place;
Standardizing the triage, reception and suspected case handling processes;
Allocating dedicated emergency services areas during the pandemic;
Standardizing and enforcing disinfection of the surfaces of medical devices/apparatuses, floors and consulting rooms
The Stomatology Department is at high risk of cross-infection of respiratory diseases, so it shoulders a heavy responsibility in pandemic control and prevention. Following guidelines of Beijing Municipal Center for Stomatological Quality Control, the department responded quickly in the early stage of the pandemic.
Furthermore, the department offered online professional guidance and psychological counselling for parents and their children.
The COVID-19 pandemic has posed significant challenges to blood collection and supply. Beijing Jingdu Children's Hospital organized blood donation activities on February 6, 2020 to ease the blood supply shortage, led by Dr. Sun Yuan and Cui Xiuying.
Doctors, nurses, some patients' families and residents came to donate blood on the call. All donors were required to complete donation forms, pass basic health check and sample test before they could undergo blood draw procedures under the guidance of medical personnel.
After a short rest, medical staff hurried back to their posts. Many patients' families also participated in the activity aimed at helping children.
Beijing Jingdu Children's Hospital organized workshop on AIDS prevention for the local community in the hospital on December 3, 2019.
The consulting desks, leaflets and lecture have drawn attention of many patients and their families. Medical staff spoke on the causes, transmission routes, clinical symptoms and preventive methods of AIDS. Participating audiences deepened their understanding of the importance of AIDS prevention, and knowledge of the AIDS transmission methods, therefore effectively ridding of their fear of AIDS.
Such activities were effective means of preventing the spread of AIDS among the public.
On September 16 to 18, 2019, the Department of Stomatology of Beijing Jingdu Children's Hospital participated in a health-related poverty relief initiative organized by Changping District's Association of Non-public Medical Organizations on September 16-18, 2020.
Over 20 stomatology practitioners from the private hospitals in Changping District, travelled to Xiamaquan Town, Shangyi County, Zhangjiakou City. The doctored conducted diagnoses for more than 80 person-times and treated for free for eligible seniors.
Located in the northwest of Hebei Province, Shangyi County is one of the most impoverished counties of the province. Most local residents, especially the elderly, had poor access to diagnosis and dental services. The free consulting initiative offered timely assistance to the local villagers.
In addition, doctors held workshops to local villagers to demonstrate correct tooth-brushing methods, provide guidance on how to form good oral hygiene and diet habits, and examined teeth conditions for many participants.
81-year-old grandpa Guo has lost all of his teeth for 20 years. Doctors from Jingdu Hospital offered and installed a full denture for him on the spot. The moment he got the denture on and tried eating an apple, he could not help bursting into tears. He had never tasted an apple for over 20 years.
